No Ren Ci Charity Show This Year .... At Least For The First Three Months !

19 January 2008

One of the most popular and biggest TV Charity Shows of the Year - The Ren Ci Charity Show is unlikely to be held this year , at least for now ' reports MY PAPER & The Straits Times yesterday .

The Charity Show which saw it held from 2003 onwards when Channel U was still under SPH Mediaworks era till last year , is a Charity Show that is organised usually at the beginning of every year , which encourage people to donate generously without the reward of any attractive prizes . All proceeds and donations will be used to fund and help those people in need , mostly the elderly and old aged staying at the Ren Ci Hospital .

As the investigations for possible irregularities in some of it's financial transactions is still currently going on , the Ren Ci Charity Show is unlikely to hit our TV screens this year until the all clear has been given by the relevant authorities before deciding whether it would be held this year .

Ren Ci Hospital and Medicare Centre Chairman Mr Chua Thian Poh told The Straits Times in an interview with them that there will be no Charity Show for the first three months of this year .

The televised show which raised more than $7 million per show in the past two years , had been held since 2003 ( usually in the beginning of the year in January) , when Channel U was still under Mediaworks before the TV merger in 2004 . Each year , the highlight of the LIVE televised Charity Show Event has to be Venrable Ming Yi Fa Shi participation in the performing items itself , where he helped to pull in lots of donation calls and raising lots of money with his daredevil stunts .

As Ren Ci is still currently under probe by the Ministry of Health since last year November after some of it's financial irregularities were discovered by the relevant authorities , the Ren Ci Charity Show for this year , may only be held after the investigations are complete .
