EXCLUSIVE : AMK Countdown To 2008 Promo Concert !

As part of New Year's Eve Countdown Party organised by Teck Ghee GROs tomorrow night , J Team stars of Yi Da Li , together with Chen Chuxuan - 陈楚璇 and Cheryl Chan - (陈雪儿) were at AMK Hub performing and entertaining the shoppers at the shopping centre yesterday afternoon !

The mini Concert was held at Level 1 of AMK Hub ( outside Cheers ) where a small performing stage was being set up for the performance . The three Performing Guests arrived at 5pm . For those who could not quite remember who they are , Cheryl Chan starred in Jack Neo's Box-Office Winning Movie of I Not stupid 1 where she played the Character Selena Khoo , ( Teri's sister ) . Remember her now ? She also recently starred in the Telemovie - Colour of Hope which was released on VCDs early this year . The movie also starred some of I Not Stupid cast too , as well as Chen Chuxuan .

Chen Chuxuan , if u would remember , acted in Channel 8 first Idol teen drama serial ' Let it Shine -萤火虫的梦 at the beginning of this year . She played the role of Lin En Na 林恩娜 in that Drama Serial .

The three performing stars were very witty and funny as usual , entertaining the crowds with many jokes as well their entertaining performance too . Yi Da Li started the ball rolling first with a Teresa Teng ( Deng Li Jun ) very popular classic song of ' Tian Mi Mi ' . She sang very well and with lots of feeling too ! The audiences , especially the older generation were truly engrossed in listening the song and many in the crowds too , were meresized by her great vocals . Great start to the mini Concert indeed !

Next up was Chen Chuxuan who sang Angela Chang Zhao Han's hit song of Yi Shi De Mei Hao ' . She was dressed in an all black dress yesterday . One very important point of note was that , in case u didn't know , this was in fact , her very FIRST public performance and singing LIVE in front of such a large group of audience ! And despite that , the atmosphere did not seem to be too daunting for her as she did not show any stage fright at all and she managed to handle the song very well , singing the popular hit song flawlessly !

The audiences were truly very impressed by her performance that immediately after she had finished singing her song , came the large applause as a true support and reflection of just how well she sang for a first timer singing the song LIVE !

Last but not least , Cheryl Chan , dressed in a red dress entertained us with a classic English song which was so very popular back then , in fact even till now to the tune and beat of Shalala . The fast lively song raised the atmosphere to another level ! She carried the song very well with her good vocals and sang exceptionally well ! The crowds were deeply memersized by the song !

With that the mini AMK Countdown To 2008 Promo Concert ended ! And the crowds were left wanting for more as it was truly a very entertaining performance put up by the three of them !

The Golden Path Star Feature - Jin Feng

For those who have been following the Series everyday without fail , u would be very familiar of a particular character in the Serial by now - Jin Feng . She plays Tay Ping Hui 's sister who is a happy go lucky - always cheerful and simple minded girl who has no interest in her studies and only aspires to be an Actress ! Her lively acting skills have since caught the eye of many ardent consistent followers of the Series and many have been asking who's she ? Where's she from ?

As a newbie and considering that this is only her very first Drama Serial that she has acted in , she certainly has done very well indeed ! Many feel she really has the potential to go very far in this line indeed ! To find out more about her read on ...

National University of Singapore undergraduate Joey Feng, who is also Miss Singapore Universe 2007’s first runner-up and Miss Photogenic, is set to conquer the local media scene of Mediacorp !

The third-year economics and theatre studies major has signed a part-time contract with MediaCorp, and is cast alongside with popular stars like Li Nan Xing, Tay Ping Hui, Felicia Chin and Joanne Peh in it's 25 Years of Drama Anniversary Drama Serial - The Golden Path .

Despite having experience in stage acting, Feng said it was not easy acting for the screen. “If the director thinks it’s not good enough, they will keep on retaking,” she said. ”So it’s very hard to hold on to the emotions, especially if it’s a crying scene.”

In the Drama Serial , Feng plays Jin Feng, a “naive, happy-go-lucky, cheerful” girl. She had to cut her long hair to suit her role. “I was finding a good reason to cut it, because I have long hair all my life, but nothing good came until this show!” she said.

Pegan Chong, an arts student and a close friend of Feng, said she sees the potential in Feng and is looking forward to her debut. “I want to see a different her, like having different personalities,” Chong said. “Then see how she acts with the MediaCorp faces (that) we already know, and perhaps look out for her ‘gan cheong’ (nervous) expressions.”

Feng has been busy shuttling between school and work ever since the start of the semester. She has been filming ' The Golden Path ' since July and has just ended her shooting recently. “When it first started, I really couldn’t cope and it hit me really hard,” she said. ” I try to balance both.”

Despite her hectic schedule, Feng said she will not neglect her studies for the showbiz. It’s really tiring,” she said, “and moreover being in third year, I’ve decided that this shall really be the last year that I’ll work hard.”

Feng said she is grateful to her friends who have helped her cope with her studies. “I find my concentration span not very good (due to the hectic study-work schedule),” she said, “but with the help of very good friends, who will lend me their notes, I think I’ll do fine.”

Apart from being an actress, Feng said she is also considering working in the banking sector or even fulfilling her childhood ambition of becoming an air stewardess. The glamorous starlet was crowned Cleo Cover Girl in 2004 and was featured in the February issue of Cleo in 2005. Feng said she joined the competition as she is an ardent Cleo fan.

Her motto, “life is short”, was also another motivating factor for her to join the Miss Singapore Universe pageant. “I wanted to join a pageant and I wanted to just join one,” said Feng. “So why not join the biggest and the (most) celebrated in Singapore?”

Feng sees her acting stint at Mediacorp as an opportunity to hone her acting skills. “Opportunity doesn’t come knocking at your role twice,” she said. “It doesn’t matter like, a bad role was being offered… you have to act different role to have good credentials in your card.”

Despite the glory and fame surrounding Feng, the theatre studies student maintains a low profile in school. “I don’t think they (the student population) even know I exist, other than my own friends,” she said.

Chen Li Ping as Xiao Gu :

She is the wife /widow of Ah Jin ( played by Li Nanxing ) . The pivotal character of the series, Xiao Gu's first husband Ah Shun ( Edmund Chen ) died early, forcing her to raise her three children alone. She insists on marrying Ah Jin against all odds and adopts his two children when he commits suicide after a confrontation with the police .

Li Nanxing as Ah Jin :

He is the husband of Xiao Gu . Ah Jin is a fugitive in hiding, where he gets to know Xiao Gu. With his background unknown to Xiao Gu, they decided to marry each other, only to be pursued by the police on their day of marriage after a tip-off from Xiao-gu's second son, Kaijie. His children Jin Long and Jin Feng were entrusted in her care after he committed suicide .

Li Nanxing as Jinlong :

He is the son of Ah Jin . But after Ah Jin dies , Xiao Gu adopted him so he is the adopted son of Xiao Gu . Spiteful towards the Huang family because of his perception that Xiao-gu was responsible for his father's death and that she used his loots to rise to riches, he has a love interest towards Huang Kaiqi ( Joanne Peh) . He eventually leaves the family after the death of his sister Jin Feng, whom he believes was caused by Kaijie( Tay Ping Hui) , his biggest nemesis. He joins the secret society, and after some time, rises to be the infamous 'Loan Shark King'. He eventually marries Bak Kut Girl .

Chew Chor Meng as Huang Kaida :

He is the eldest son of Xiao Gu . A medical student, kind-hearted Kaida discovered the crime his brother Kaijie had committed and eventually loses his sanity after covering up for him. As a result, he lost his licence to be a doctor as well as his love interest Lu Simin ( Priscella Chan ) .

Tay Ping Hui as Huang Kaijie :

He is the second son of Xiao Gu . Responsible for tipping the police off which eventually caused the death of Ah Jin, Huang Kaijie became a policeman after graduating in law. He has a love interest for Jin Feng, but drowns her after making her pregnant. Marrying Lin Fei ( Felicia Chin ) despite the latter's affections for Jin Long, he goes into hiding after his crime was investigated by his superiors .

Joanne Peh as Huang Kaiqi :

She is the daughter of Xiao Gu . Huang Kaiqi is a good natured individual who aspires to be a journalist. The only one who can communicate with Jin Long, she discovers his exploits in the underworld after he leaves the family and tries to coax him back without avail .

Felicia Chin as Lin Fei :

She is the wife of Kaijie . As u have read earlier , Lin Fei eventually married Kaijie despite her affection for Jin Long . Born into a rich family, Lin Fei suffered from a terminal illness with a bone marrow transplant only possible from Huang Kaijie to save her life. She falls for Jin Long despite marrying Kaijie. After discovering his background, she took a bullet for Jin Long and died in his arms .

Cai Peixuan as Bat Kut Teh Girl :

She is the wife of Jinlong , after Jinlong married her ( as stated above ) . A runaway from Malaysia where she was forced to marry a rich man to clear her father's debts, she works at Jinlong's Grandpa bat kut teh stall. There, she develops a love interest in Jin Long and marries him. Intently in love with Jin Long, she killed a policeman for him, but slips from his arms to her death after being rescued by Jin Long from a prison van on the day of her trial for the murder.

Zhang Wei as Grandpa :

He plays Jinlong's Grandfather who runs a bat kut teh stall and employed Bat Kut teh Girl as his assistant . He loves to gamble and as a result , loses a lot of money in one of his gambling and loansharks was after him and he has to go to hiding .

Huang Wenyong as Lin De Sheng :

He plays the father of Lin Fei ( Felicia Chin ) . Aware of his daughter Lin Fei's terminal illness, Lin De Sheng dots on her and gives her free will to do anything she wants. When she was saved by a successful bone marrow transplant operation, however, his relation with her begins to worsen as begins to plan for her life.

Joey Feng as Jin Feng :

She plays the daughter of Ah Jin , who is also the adoptive daughter of Xiao Gu . A simple girl who aspired to be an actress, she is the love interest of Kaijie, who made her pregnant. However , he refused to acknowledge their relationship and drowned her instead.

Priscella Chan as Lu Si Min :

A medical undergrad , Si Min is the lover of Huang Kaida ( until he suffers from a mental illness) as well as De Jian .

After coming out tops among Asia's 6 best Idol Winners in the region , Hady Mirza's singing career is set to soar to even greater heights with his popularity steadily increasing , now that he is Asia's Best singer !

With him winning the Asian Idol title , he could very well one day represent the Asia continent in World Idol , where he will be put to the utimiate test and see him pit his singing skills against the World's Best top singers , winners from their respective Idol competitions from all over the World , ranging from USA to South Africa , Belgium, Australia, Germany, Norway, Pan Arabia (Arab World) , Netherlands, United Kingdom, Canada and Poland , this will surely put him on the World stage in the biggest Idol competition ever in his life so far , if , that is , if there were really to be one for him to compete in in the near future !

Not only will he be representing Asia , he will also be representing Singapore too ! How about that ? An Asian Project Superstar Too ?

We have seen how Indonesia and it's Television Broadcaster RCTI Channel has successfully hosted the biggest Idol singing competition of the Year - Asian Idol 2007 over the weekend which was truly a real success considering that this is the first time there is an Asian Idol competition and Indonesia , being given the great honour to be the first country to be hosting such a high profile singing competition that stretches over 6 countries and watched by millions all across Asia , has certainly done a wonderful job indeed !

Now that we have an Asian Idol , and given that it was such a roaring success , I was just thinking why not we ride on this hot Idol fever and come out with an Asian Project Superstar as well too ? Isn't this a very good idea ? Like the Asian Idol , we can invite Project Superstar Winners from the various Asian countries like Malaysia and Vietnam etc to join our very own Project Superstar Winner in a Grand singing competition and have the various participating countries to vote too !

Since we are the ones ( Channel U ) who came out with this Project Superstar competition two Years ago , after the American Idol fever swept to Singapore , I think to start the ball rolling we can be the host of the very first Asian Project Superstar competition ! Who will be the very first Asian Project Superstar ? It may just turn out to be either our very own first Season Winner Tan Weilian or Second Season Winner Daren Tan and be known all across Asia by emerging Champions !

Surely that is a very good suggestion that is really worth considering by the relevant authorities ? Surely an Asian Project Superstar can only be good for their singing careers , irregardless of the eventual outcome ?

Yes , it's Official ! Believe it or not , our very own Hady Mirza IS THE Asian Idol 2007 Winner ! He has been crowned Champions and has successfully beaten the other Finalists to emerge victorious to be Asia's first Asian Idol !

Congratulations to u Hady for doing us proud ! We are certainly very proud of u and happy for your achievement and success ! It is surely Singapore's finest hour to be able to witness u emerge as Champions away from home and be known all across Asia as Asia's Best singer ! U have done Singapore proud !

When I was watching the Results and Champion being announced , I couldn't hide my happiness and was so happy for him ! I couldn't believe my ears and eyes when I heard Hady's name being mentioned as the Results were announced ! Honestly , I had not expected him to emerge as Champions even though , deep down inside me in my heart , like all the other fellow Singaporeans watching the LIVE Results Show , I also really hope that he could win it for us as I felt the other contestants were also very good and were better than him , I felt .

It seemed that I was not alone with this feeling and thinking as some of the judges also felt that either Malaysia's Jaclyn Victor , Indonesia's Mike or Philippines's Mau Marcello could be the winner when they were asked to give their Predictions before the Results were announced . One judge even mentioned that if Hady and another contestant were to emerge winners instead of hot favourites Mike or Mau Marcello , it would then be deemed as an upset. Clearly , Hady was being viewed as an Underdog among the 6 Idol Finalists there .

In other words , he had managed to upset the odds staked against him to be the FIRST Asian Idol !

Congratulations Hady ! This is one moment that no one will ever forget , especially Hady himself ! This is truly one very special and memorable night for Hady , for his supporters and for us all Singaporeans !

It is definitely the Biggest Idol Competition to date ever that u will get to see on television in this region , featuring six of the best singing talents in this part of Asia . Idol winners from Singapore , India , Malaysia , Vietnam , Philiphness and host Indonesia compete in a two hour competition with the results to be announced tomorrow night !

The Asian Idol Grand Final Performance Show was shown in all six participating countries television stations and I had the benefit and luxury of being able to watch the same 2 hours Grand Final Performance Show on 3 of the Channels - Mediacorp Channel 5 ( Singapore ) , Malaysia's 8TV Channel & on Host Nation's Official Broadcasting Channel - Indonesia's RCTI Channel !

Although it was stated in the respective TV Schedules that the Performance Show would all be shown at 10pm on the 3 Channels , it was not a LIVE Telecast at all ! In fact , as it turned out , it was a Delayed Telecast instead, despite the fact that all 3 Channels were showing the show on their respective Channels at that same period of time !

I know the TV Schedules of the various countries did not state that it was exactly a LIVE Telecast , but doing so ( showing it all at the same time at 10pm) may give viewers the impression that it WAS a LIVE Telecast ( which , in actual fact , was only a Delayed Telecast ! It might have lead to some confusion and misunderstanding that it WAS a LIVE Telecast , just because it was stated in the TV Listings that it would be shown all at the same time at 10pm on these 3 Channels !

If one were to have the benefit of having been able to watch the Performance Show earlier on all these 3 Channels , u would have noticed that Channel 5 were showing the programme slightly ahead of the other 2 Channels , with Malaysia's 8TV Channel 5 minutes slower than Channel 5 and RCTI Channel was in fact , 10 minutes behind the other two Channels !

For some of u who have been kept in the dark till now , guess u must be terribily shocked by this news ! Now u will be wondering , since it was to be a Delayed Telecast Programme right from the start , what's their purpose then of them ( the 3 countries ) decision to show the Grand Final Showdown all at the same period of time ? If their main intention of them showing it all at the same time was to be fair and square , where votings from the TV audiences are concerned , why this 5 or 10 mins adrift of each other ? Aren't they contradicting themselves then ?

Such a big competition , on such a big stage and on such a big Night like this and it was not being shown LIVE ? Oh .... What a disappointment ! The show itself was exciting and entertaining , with it's fair share of fun and laughter , but seriously , it could have been even better , more exciting and even more fun if it had been broadcasted LIVE to our Television screens ! But sadly , though none of them did .... !

How To Vote ?

Voting procedures :

There are several differences in voting and tabulation between Asian Idol and other Idol shows. Unlike the latter wherein the viewers get to vote for one contestant, the voting procedure for Asian Idol requires viewers to vote for two favorite Idols, thus allowing contestants to receive votes from their respective countries .

As consideration on population size among the participating countries, tabulation of votes are done through an "Equal and Even Cumulative Method", where the total votes of each country are converted into percentages .

The ' Unbelievable Truth ' Of RCTI Channel Lost of Transmission in Singapore : Asian Idol The Cause of It ?

To those who are lucky enough to get access and watch TV programmes on Indonesia's RCTI Channel here in Singapore , did u get a blue screen for almost a week whenever u switch on that Channel ? If u have , u are not alone . Me too and some of my friends and neighbours did too as I found out !

What immediately came onto the minds of regular RCTI Channel viewers here in Singapore was suspecion of a case of foul play in an attempt to block out certain programmes here in Singapore to prevent us from watching them on the RCTI Channel here in Singapore !

It was really of NO concidence seriously , I believe that as soon as news broke out here last Friday on this Blog , which carries the report that not only our very own Channel 5 will be showing u Asian Idol , RCTI Channel will also be showing u even more Asian Idol Special Programmes on their Channel , as a countdown to the biggest singing competition across Asia set to take place on 15 December , the transmission of the Channel here in Singapore went blank the next day onwards . All we could see for the past 1 week was only a sea of blue screen staring at our face !

Some of our regular followers of the Idol singing competition were understandably very frustrated , angry and annoyed at having to content with just staring at the same blue screen for the past one week , after learning of the good news through our EXCLUSIVE report here ! The one week long lost in transmission of Indonesia's RCTI Channel here in Singapore also caused much inconveniences to regular viewers and followers of it's programmes ! For soccer fans , they did not even get to watch the last round of Champions League Group Stages Matches as well as last week's Spanish League LIVE games !

The same blue screen stayed on the Channel from last Saturday ( 8 December ) till this Friday ( 14 December ) . Transmission only went back to normal only today ! This is very clearly a case of deliberate Block Out of programmes as a means to prevent us from watching those 'extra' Asian Idol Programmes that were not shown on our local Channel here , but were instead , produced and shown only EXCLUSIVELY on RCTI Channel itself !

Then a week later , it's the annual Star Awards Presentation in Star Awards 2007 . The Awards Ceremony will be from 7pm to 10pm LIVE on Channel 8 , then followed by a Post Awards Celebration Show at 10pm LIVE on Channel U .

Besides the two Star Awards , this month we will get to see two Mega Blockbuster Drama Serial at both the Primetime Drama Serial timeslot of 7pm & 9pm ! The Album includes Theme songs from Drama Serial ' Love At 0 Degrees ' sung by Rui En , Honour and Passion Theme Song sung by Tay Ping Hui , Men in Black ( aka wo lei ye ) Theme song sung by Fann Wong , Morning Express 1 sub-Theme song sung by Chen Hanwei etc ... This Album consists of a total of 33 songs in 2 CDS ! It is being sold at $ 18.95 at all Popular Bookstores !

The other Theme song Album comprises of 3 CDS with 36 Tracks with Theme songs sung by popular singers like Zhou Hua Jian who sung the Theme song for Morning Express 1 , Li Zhong Shen who duet with Zoe Tay for The Unbeatables 2 Theme song , as well as May Day who sang zhi zu - The Theme Song for A Child's Hope etc ... This Theme Song Album is being sold at Popular Bookstore for $20.96 .
