Man United : From League Champions To Relegation Candidates ?

20 August 2007

A look at the League table this morning and u will be staring at the unthinkable and really wonders how the tables have been turned upside down . Man City are currently sitting pretty at the top with three wins out of three - 9 points , Chelsea second . Then as u scan for Man United's name in the Top 10 lists of teams , and u couldn't find them . Whether u believe it or not , Man United are at 16th position with two draws and a defeat with three games played , collecting a miserable two points out of a possible nine . The defending League Champions are hovering near the relegation zone !

Even traditional rival London teams like ' Tottering ' Tottenham and young guns Arsenal , as well as Liverpool who has a game in hand are so much better than them at the moment ! Man United are now a team in crisis ! For the first time since EPL began in 1992 , they have got off to a worst possible start that anyone could not have imagined !

Yes , that's the cold hard fact and the real truth at how the tables are turned upon the two Manchester sides . With all the hype on United being a real strong force , a team to beat and look out for in this new Season after the summer signings of Tervez , Nani , Anderson , Owen Hargreaves, they have failed so miserably and disappointed big time at the start of the Season . They couldn't have asked for a worst possible start than this .

Against Reading on the opening day , they couldn't score after creating so many chances and had to settle for a goalless draw . Then in midweek against Portsmouth , Ronaldo was sent off and the team was down to 10 men thanks to Ronaldo hot-headness but Alex Ferguson's men were lucky to pick up a point to keep their unbeaten run going .

Last night , however , lightning was not to strike thrice to rescue the Devils at least a point as they tasted defeat for the first time this Season . Missing a host of other key players besides Wayne Rooney out injured for three months , and Ronaldo suspended for three games , they were also severely missing Neville , Park Ji Sung , Foster , new signings Anderson and Owen Hargreaves , Louis Saha , Solskjaer , Fang Dong Zhuo . Alex Ferguson's side were clearly limited of options upfront .

At one stage last night , they even had to send on an unknown player in the form of Frazier Campbell . That just goes to show how limited his selection options are on the bench . If they don't find their form fast enough and turn the corner quickly , they are going to be in more serious trouble !

They host Tottenham Hotspurs at Old Trafford on this Sunday . If Spurs do play the way they played against Derby over the weekend , United are going to slide even further down the table and possibly to the relegation zone . And relegation , is really unthinkable for a big team like Man United !
