Man City : From EPL Pretenders To Title Contenders ?

20 August 2007

So , u have watched the exciting Manchester Derby last night where City walked away with all 3 points and sent the reigning League Champions to their first defeat of this Season . EPL football fans , especially United fans in particular must still be reeling in shock and disbelief at how United could lose to their bitter rivals in a match which they were the more dominiant side , creating and coming close on numerous occasions but just couldn't score .

Lady Luck certainly played a big part last night and made all the difference in the fortunes of the two Manchester sides . While United was dominating and creating good scoring opportunities for themselves , however hard they tried , they just couldn't find the target . Tervez , Giggs , Nani all tried but failed to score , whereas , City found the net in the first half (31st minute ) in their first shot on target and second shots on goal to score the only goal of the game which was enough for them to take all 3 vital points off their bitter rivals .

This win is even more special for City and their fans considering that they are now leading the table after 3 rounds of EPL games played with Chelsea second . City are playing a brand of confident and beautiful football so far and with the League still a long way to go , it will be interesting to see that come May , will it be the blue half of Manchester that will be smiling at the top .

With 3 wins out of three so far , this team certainly looks promising and has a bright future ahead of them .
Even Schemichael , the son of former United legendary keeper Peter , was outstanding in goal last night as he stopped several vital shots to preserve their team's lead . This team under Sven is threatening to take EPL by storm and sending out a strong message that they are not a team to be underestimated with and are determined to be a serious title contender this Season .

Sitting pretty at the top now , their next test will come on Saturday when they play yet another EPL giant - Arsenal . Can they pull off yet another vital victory over the EPL Top 4 ? After last night's victory over United , City players' confidence and morale must be on a real high now and they and their fans believe that they can . The blue half of Manchester simply can't wait for the match to begin to find out .
