The biggest and the highest accolade of all television Awards in the Asian region - the annual Asian Television Awards where our very own locally produced shows gets the recognition and the greatest honour to compete with other shows produced by our Asian neighbouring countries for the top honours is here once again ! Into it's 14th year this year , this year's Awards sees a large number of our local shows from both Channel 8 and Channel 5 being nominated !
And also , as fate would have it , Winners of the Best Actor & Best Actress Awards in this year's Star Awards - 陈汉玮 Chen Han Wei & 白薇秀 Joanne Peh are also being nominated to contest in the same category again , ( this time round in the Asian Television Awards ) for the same role too , can they do a double this year and prove that their win at the Star Awards earlier this year are no fluke ?
The closing dates for the submission of names to the judges for nomination has long been closed on 31 July 2009 and the Lists of Nominees were announced only yesterday ! The Awards Night will be held on 3 December 2009 .
- Best Drama Series :
Mediacorp Channel 8 Hit MEGA Blockbuster Drama Serial - 《小娘惹》 The Little Nyonya undoubtedly , with it's huge success both locally and internationally , so it was of no real surprise that it was being nominated in the Best Drama Serial , where it will contest with hit popular Korean Idol Drama Serial - 《花样男子》 Boys Over Flowers . The latter achieved high viewership ratings on Channel U when it was shown on the Channel not too long ago earlier this year .
- Best Actor Award :
The most fiercely contested Award has to be from the Best Actor Category this year where a total of five Mediacorp Actors across the two Channels - Mediacorp Channel 8 & Channel 5 will fight it out for that one coveted Award ! It is a two way fight from three Actors from Channel 8 and two nominees from Channel 5 ( both from the same Drama Serial - no less ! ) makes this a really hotly contested category indeed !
It's a repeat of this year's Star Awards in the Asian Television Awards Best Actor Award Category !
戚玉武 Qi Yu Wu & 方展发 Pierre Png , both who were also nominated for the Best Actor Award in the Star Awards in April this year for their roles in < 小娘惹 > - The Little Nyonya will now have a chance to avenge their ' revenge ' where they lost out to the eventual winner in the same category - 陈汉玮 Chen Han Wei for his excellent portrayal of an Aids patient in the tearjacking & touching Drama Serial - < 不凡的爱 >- By My Side . And it is this role again that saw him being nominated for the Best Actor Category in this year's Asian Television Awards ! Will history repeat itself once again ?
Patrick Teoh and Adrian Pang who acted Father and Son in the Channel 5 40 Episodes MEGA Blockbuster Drama - Red Thread were also nominated in the same Category too ! Looks like it will be one big fight for that one coveted Award !
- Best Actress Award :
Equally as fiercely contested were also in the Best Actress Category where Star Awards Best Actress Winner 白薇秀 Joanne Peh who beat hot favourite 欧萱 Jeanette Aw to the Award this year , has again came up tops , doing a ' double ' over her ! She will now come up against the likes of Ah Jie 郑惠玉 Zoe Tay and 范文芳 Fann Wong both starring opposite each other in the Mid Year MEGA Blockbuster Drama Serial - < 双子星 > The ULTIMATUM . 林湘萍 Yvonne Lim were also being nominated in this Category for her excellent performance in Channel U local Blockbuster Drama - < 一切完美 > Perfect Cut .
- Channel U :
Besides having a nomination in the Best Actress Award , Channel U popular singing competition - < 校园 SuperStar 3 > Campus Superstar 3 Grand Final was also nominated for the Best Music Programme - the first time that the popular Channel U competition , which is into it's Third Season has been nominated for any Awards in the Asian Television Awards ! Channel U 's other nomination came from the popular Variety Show - 《绿设兵团》 Go Green for the Best Infotatment Programme .
- Channel 5 :
Mediacorp Channel 5 received the most nominations in this year's Asian Television Awards ! Besides gaining two nominations in it's MEGA Blockbuster Drama Serial - Red Thread for Best Drama Serial & Best Actor , with two nominations in the latter , it's other Blockbuster Drama - Fighting Spiders also received a couple of nominations too !
The 13 Episodes Blockbuster Drama Serial , which was set in the 60s received two nominations for Best Cinematography as well as Best Direction Award . Channel 5 Sitcom Calefare was nominated for Best Comedy Programme and First Class ( Season 1 ) , which the Channel is currently showing it's second season on Tuesdays night was being nominated for the Best Cross Platform Content Award .
A new face on Channel 5 Chua Enlai was being nominated under the Best Comedy Performance by An Actor Award for his role in the English Sitcom - Parental Guidance . The inaugural President's Command Performance , a premier gala event held at the Esplanade , is a platform to showcase Singaporeans who have made their mark on the world stage in the field of performing arts , including music , fashion and photography where the objective is to celebrate these Singaporeans and their achievements , and to inspire other Singaporeans .
The two hour Event was also shown LIVE on Mediacorp Channel 5 earlier this year in July and was hosted by Adrian Pang , was also being nominated in this year's Asian Television Awards for the Best Entertainment Special Award .
