They say the number 8 is considered as an auspicious number for the Chinese as it is believed to mean wealth and prosperity ... So , it is hardly surprising that both the Beijing Olympics organising committee and popular Taiwanese band group FIR who came to our shores just recently two weeks ago chose to hold both their respective big Events on this day - 080808 and at the same time too at 8pm !

With most people really eager and anxiously looking forward to watching the Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony , especially with many Mega star studded personalities set to grace the occasion and many popular artistes and singers scheduled to land their voices to perform on a big stage such as this , ( probably for the very first time in the artistes entire career so far ) , they have now been given such a golden opportunity and the great pride and honour of performing for the World , with the Event to be beamed LIVE internationally all over the world .

Mediacorp Chinese Entertainment Channel - Channel U will officially be turned into a sports Channel come August when the Beijing Olympics kicks off next month , starting from 8 August 2008 !

Channel U which brings to it's Chinese community viewers Drama Serials , Entertainment and Variety Shows will for once be transformed into a sporting Channel to offer to it's viewers more choices to watch LIVE Beijing Olympics Action , besides Channel 5 and it's High Denifition Channel - HD 5 which will also offer LIVE Olympics Action !

Although these three Channels will all be bringing u LIVE Olympics Action , the contents are likely to be different from one Channel to another . Channel U hopes to give it's viewers a different Olympics experience by bringing the Games to u in Mandrain . This is Singapore's First & possibly only Channel to be bringing the Games to it's viewers all in Chinese in it's original taste !

Channel U coverage of the Olympics Games will begin from 3pm on to 5pm on weekdays and will continue it's coverage again from 12am to 2am . On top of that , the Channel will also offer full day's Olympics coverage on weekends from 10am onwards all the way to 2am ( except on news timeslots at 7pm & 11pm ) .

For non - Chinese speaking families , Singaporean viewers can tune in to Channel 5 and it's High Definition Channel coverage of the Games . The contents from Channel 5 and HD 5 will be different .

Princess Felicia To Be Known As ' Cherry Princess ' - “樱桃公主” ?

A new nickname to go with her new Chinese name - Chen Jing Xuan ? In 2005 , when she starred in the highly popular Mediacorp long running Drama Serial - Portrait of Home - 同心圆 , she was widely and popularity known as Mei Ren Yu for her innocent , kind and helpful character in the 100 Episode Series as her role was so well liked by many viewers .... The nickname from the Series has been stuck with her since and have followed her from then even till today ...

Now three years later in 2008 , following another outstanding performance , this time round as a cameo appearance on Tuesday's Episode of Perfect Cut - 一切完美which left a very huge and deep impression on her fans and the viewers , in which she stars as Cherry Princess “樱桃公主” , now her fans , supporters and even some people may start to call her Cherry Princess “樱桃公主” from now onwards !

Her portrayal of the sad character in Perfect Cut - 一切完美 was really and simply excellent ! As a young singer , Cherry's rise to stardom was not an easy one . Having had to go for a facial surgery as she was deemed not perfect enough by her manager Roy ( portrayed by Brandon Wong ) , she underwent facial surgery and looked a much perfect and beautiful star on screen and on stage .

But , behind the fame , glory and the huge support from the fans and supporters that she got after her rise to stardom following the release of her first solo Album - Little Secret , she was constantly under tremendous huge pressure both from the media as well as her manager . The media kept asking her about the speculation about her going for facial surgery and under pressure from their constant probing , she confessed to going under the knife .

Meanwhile , her mother who picks old cardboards for a living , was seriously ill and was sent to hospital . But her manager forbid her from visiting her seriously ill mother with her image as a star as stake . In the end , her ailing mother died in hospital . As for her singing career , as she was unable to withstand the pressure and on the verge of breaking down , she chose to give up her singing career and decided to leave Singapore and start anew her music career overseas in Japan .

Teresa Tseng has a hand in both the Theme Songs as well as the Sub Theme Songs for current the 9pm Drama Serial - 球爱大战 Beach Ball Babes ! The first Season Campus Superstar Winner who last sang a Theme Song for a local Drama Serial was way back in 2006 , for which she also sang and acted in the Idol Drama Serial - Let It Shine 萤火虫的梦, starring fellow Campus Superstar Contestants - Renfred Ng , Huang Zhiyang , Geradine , as well as Mediacorp artistes Felicia Chin and Adam Chen as teachers in the Serial .

She also sang the Sub Theme Song for the Idol Drama Serial - Let It Shine 萤火虫的梦 too . NDP 2008 Theme Song Is Out !

The much awaited and anticipated Theme Song for this year's National Day is finally out ! This year's Theme Song - Shine for Singapore ( English Version ) and it's Mandarin version - 晴空万里 will be sung by our Asian Idol Winner Hady Mirza and Joi Chua respectively .

Both Hady and Joi happen to be singing the NDP Theme Song for the very first time in their lives . But , especially for Joi Chua , who once expressed her desire and wish to be able to contribute something in the NDP Parade for the nation's Birthday , in an interview with a particular local newspaper some years back , has finally gotten the great chance and honour to do so this year , as she was being chosen to sing the NDP Theme Song for this year ! This year's National Day Parade will surely be a very memorable and special occasion for her !

But this chance has certainly not come that very easy for Joi though , especially after initial reports earlier this year that Stefanie was to land her voice for this year NDP Theme Song , which sparked a massive outburst from some Singaporeans on her being picked yet again to sing the NDP Theme Song and that the organising committee had eluded some other great local singing talents like Joi .

And whether it is by sheer coincidence or not , Joi was in fact picked by most Singaporeans as a better candidate and choice to sing this year's NDP Theme Song than Stefanie in a poll conducted by some discussion forums earlier this year .

But , in the end though , it was believed that Stefanie had some other commitments on her hand then - ( that she was chosen to be part of the many to sing this year's Beijing Olympics Theme Song ) that she was eventually replaced by Joi .

Whatever it is , first time singer for NDP Joi Chua has indeed done a very good job in delivering this year's NDP Theme Song so beautifully and to such perfection that every Singaporean and she herself too can really be proud of !
