All 7 Princesses Nominated For Star Awards Screen Sweetheart Awards !

Star Awards 2007 - 25 Anniversary Dramas Special Edition nominees for ' Best Drama Serial Theme Songs Awards ' as well as ' Screen Sweetheart Awards ' were announced earlier this week on Monday , 8 October 2007 . In the Screen Sweetheart Awards , 25 nominees were announced and out of the lucky shortlisted candidates who made it to the nomination list which comprises of past veterans artistes as well as the most popular and famous artistes of today .

A look at the list of nominees , u will surely have noticed something : Besides Ah Jie Zoe Tay & Fann Wong who are expected to be nominated , all 7 Mediacorp most popular Princesses all successfully made into the list ! All 7 of them - Dawn Yeoh , Felicia Chin , Fiona Xie , Jeanette Aw , Jessica Liu , Joanne Peh and last but not least , Rui En - ' The 7 Princesses ' as they are so popularly known . Besides them , veterans popular artistes in the 80s like Chen Xiu Huan - 陈秀环 and Zhu Le Ling - 朱乐玲 ( u can see her currently appearing on Mystery 1 in the story on Butterfly ) Jazreel Low - 刘琦 and Zeng Hui Feng - 曾慧芬 ( recently seen on TV in Telemovie ' feng die ' with Wu Zheng Yu ) all gets the nod to be in the running of this special Award . The other nominees also included Pan Ling Ling , Yvonne Lim , Phyills Quek , Jacelyn Tay , Ivy Lee etc ...

But what's really surprised me was the omission of some other female artistes like the ' Yang ' sisters - Yang Libing and Yang Lina , sweetie -pie Evelyn Tan , Joey Swee , Le Yao , Cythina Koh , May Phua , Constance Song , Aileen Tan , Huang Biren , Vivian Lai , Florence Tan or even actress turned singer - Zhang Yu Hua who starred together with Ix Shen in the highly popular Drama Serial - ' You Light Up My Life ' 如何对你说 in 2001 her last appearance as an actress before she went to Taiwan to be a professional singer .

Mediacorp Channel 8 Classic Drama Serial - Mystery 1 Returns Yet Again By Popuar Demand !

Mystery 1 - 迷离夜 1 - A 30 Episode spine chilling horror Drama Serial is back once again on our TV screens this time round with a reasonable new time slot of 10.30pm on Mondays and Tuesdays ! In fact , it has only just finished it's re-run on the Wednesdays 2am late nights time -slot and it is currently back yet again on our TV screens by popular demand ! So , it will be starting all over yet again from the very first Episode onwards on Mondays & Tuesdays from Mondays , 8 October 2007 ( yesterday ) at 10.30pm on Channel 8 ! This must indeed be a really good news for all those who had missed it's ' first ' re-run on the Wednesday late nights and are feeling disappointed having to miss this Mediacorp real classic Drama Serial !

Mystery 1 is a 30 Episode Drama Serial made up of 8 different short stories :

This Drama Serial - Mystery 1 was first shown in 8 August 1988 and it's first re-run was shown on 6 June 2007 on Wednesdays night at 1.30am . Now it is back once again - the full 30 Episode series ! Each Episode is being shown for two hours each night from 10.30pm to 12.30am . Don't miss it this time round if u had missed it earlier .

It was so well received back then in 1988 that a sequel of this Drama Serial - Mystery 2 - 迷离夜II was made and was shown in 1992 .

Star Awards Presentations Delayed By A Week !

Star Awards Presentations to be delayed by a week ! After it was initially announced that the two Awards will be held on the first two Sundays of December this year , latest news has it that the two Star Awards will be shifted back one week later .

That means , Star Awards - 25 Anniversary Drama Special Edition will now be held on 9 December 2007 ( Sunday ) at 7pm LIVE on Channel 8 , while the annual Star Awards 2007 will be held on the following Sunday , 16 December 2007 at 7pm LIVE on Channel 8 . A post Awards Celebration Show will be held right after that night's Awards at 10pm . U can catch it LIVE on Channel U at 10pm to 11pm .

Other than that , all else remained unchanged . A Star Awards Prelude Show will be shown on Channel 8 starting on 18 October 2007 onwards , every Thursdays at 8pm . Also public voting through magazines - 8 Days & I - Weekly as well as telephones lines will be opened from today onwards till 11 November 2007 for u viewers to be part of this Awards extravenga as u get to vote 6 out of the 11 Awards to be given out on the 25 Anniversary Special Edition Awards night which includes 5 Best Drama Serials , 5 Best Drama Serials Theme Songs as well as My Favourites Male / Female Artistes etc ...

Soccer fans out there , especially those who watched the EPL regularly , did any of u buy the Weekly Football Newspaper - 6 Yardbox last weekend ? If Only The Changes Had Come Much Earlier ... Commentary

Yes , indeed .... If only the changes had come much earlier ... , I thought to myself as I read and digest the latest changes meted out by the Education Ministry to the Normal Stream Students . Cos had this particular new criteria been put in place earlier during my time , I would have benefited from it and what I am currently doing now , today might just have been slightly different .

Of the few changes announced yesterday , two of those caught my attention :

The Changes :

First , the new promotion criteria to Sec 5N - What It Used To Be : Previously , u need to score a C5 or better in English and obtain 10 points or less for your Best 3 subjects .

Now , not only u need to obtain a C5 or less in English Language , u also need to obtain 19 points or less for FIVE subjects , and that includes your English & Maths as well , under the new promotion criteria to Sec 5N .

The second change is that there is a choice of skipping your O 'Levels and going straight to study Higher Nitec Courses in ITE if u do well in your N ' Levels Exams ( that is , provided u meet the new promotion criteria as mentioned above ) . But in choosing to study Higher Nitec Course in ITE , u need to attend a 10 Weeks Preparatory Course .

Had the changes been put in place earlier , I might have gone on to study Higher Nitec Course in ITE after my N 'Levels Exams as under this new scheme , there is a choice of skipping doing the O 'Levels Exams . For me , coming from a Normal Academic Stream Course in Sec 5 doing my O Levels which I did so badly and had to repeat another year all because I failed my Maths , Science and History in my first time round . Although I did fare better in my second attempt , but it was only slightly better , as I managed to pass my Science this time round , together with my English and Chinese Language . Of course , passing only three subjects couldn't guarantee me a place in a Poly , but I was lucky enough , very lucky indeed to book myself a place in ITE studying a 2 Years Higher Nitec course in Accounting .

But as u can see , had the changes been made earlier , I could have save all these trouble of wasting my time and effort in repeating my O'Levels or in fact , doing my O' Levels at all in the first place ! I could have gone straight away to ITE and study my Higher Nitec course there and then when I passed my N 'Levels Exams ! Of course , yes , indeed u could say that things could have been very much different ! But one can also say that nothing is for sure considering that the new promotion criteria and points to obtain is different now and that my thinking is based on the old scheme .

Of course , it is and has been everyone's dream , mine as well to be able to make it and study in a JC or Poly , but I certainly won't mind having to settle for a place in ITE instead , if it means saving my time and a few of my years studying and 'wasting ' it on doing my O Levels when I couldn't even pass enough subjects and would end up the same place in the end ! With this new changes , it certainly opens up more pathways , choices and routes to those who may end up struggling in their O 'Levels .

Now that my own Education career is over .... And as I look back to the path I had taken and lament all I can and feel that I am a ' victim ' of this latest education changes , I think that the pupils can stand to benefit a lot from this new scheme , at least from my own experience and of what I myself had gone through ...

It's exactly two months to Star Awards 2007 - 25 Anniversary Awards Night , the first of two Awards Presentation to be held this month all because of Channel 8 celebration of it's 25 Anniversary Drama production . And in line with this commemorative event , Channel 8 has lined up a series of related shows this month to Thank U , the viewers for your constant support !

Star Awards Preview Show :

As an appetiser to this year's biggest and most special Star Awards ever , an eight Episode ' 红星大奖星光隧道 ' - a studio based Game Show to be hosted by Kym Ng and Desmond Koh which will see contestants playing games and have fun with familiar TV celebrities . A repeat telecast of the show will be telecasted on 20 October onwards , every Saturdays at 3pm . *More details to be updated accordingly .*

TR Report - 25 Anniversary Drama Special

This special series which began it's Debut on 23 Sept onwards , every Sundays at 10.30pm gives u an insight to the history of Drama Serial production over the past 25 years , the various Dramas and popular TV stars and celebrities that have left a big impression on us from then till now - A walk down memory lane as we follows the long successful story of TV Drama production that Channel 8 has gone through .

TV Premiere - The Maid

This much awaited highly successful local horror movie will hit our TV screens for the first time ! Starring Chen Shucheng and Hong Huifang , this tells a spine chilling story of the Hungry Ghost 7th Month Festival where the gates of hell are opened and spirits are let loose on the human world . It also tells of common beliefs and taboos people believed to be practising in this month . For example , Do not swim during the 7th Month . Do not turn back when someone calls out your name . Do not talk to strangers on a deserted stretch of road etc ... Although the 7th month is over , it is still a really good movie to watch ! Be prepared to be scared out of your wits on 20 October 2007 at 10.30pm on Channel 8 !
